Leah’s passion for law began when she was a young girl. Leah attended University of Miami for her undergraduate education and she double majored in Spanish and International Studies before graduating in three years from the university. During her time in college, Leah assisted with the PR and marketing for local Miami Festival, Jazz in the Gardens. Additionally, Leah worked as an On-Air DJ and Speciality Show host at WVUM 90.5 FM in Miami. As she continued to become more involved in the entertainment industry, Leah’s love for law intensified, but she also realized that she wanted to combine her love for entertainment with her passion to pursue law.
Aftergraduating, her alma mater offered her a full ride scholarship to attend University of Miami School of Law to pursue her Juris Doctorate degree. During her time in law school, Leah was very active in organizations and internships. Leah was a Dean’s Merit Scholar, member of the Society of Bar & Gavel, LawWithoutWalls Conposium winner, Entertainment and Sports Law Vice President, and Black Law Students Association Historian. Additionally, Leah sought any internship opportunities that were based in Entertainment. At the end of her first year of law school, Leah interned for the General Counsel of the Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts, one the largest performing arts centers in the United States focused on providing arts to the community. Next, Leah interned for BBC Worldwide Latin America where she drafted and redlined Agreements regarding television industries in Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic Market. Next, Leah had the opportunity to intern for Ultra Music Festival, assisting the legal department with NDA’s production and vendor Agreements, and legal nuances during the week of the festival.
While in her last year of law school, Leah started her own clothing company where she became a multifaceted asset for her business. From clothing manufacturing, social media marketing, business compliance, to even filing her own Trademark, Leah became determined to learn practical experience from her business while also pursuing her passions in the fashion industry. At the same time, Leah was continuing her legal education, advising small businesses on legal and business compliance in the Law and Startup Practicum, and working on an important federal and state Entertainment Litigation case at Akerman LLP. After graduating from law school, passing the October 2020 California Bar Exam, and obtaining her bar license in January 2021, Leah has worked diligently to make a name for herself in the Entertainment Industry. Leah assisted with drafting Motion to Dismiss Appeal on a “Fair Use” case in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that was set to make precedent on whether the use of protected material in an “actor’s reel” should be considered fair use under Copyright Law. Leah also assisted clients in the TV/ Film Industry, while also aiding businesses with corporate compliance. More notably, Leah has negotiated music distribution deals on behalf of her music clients, advised small businesses on corporate compliance, and has helped creatives register their copyrights to properly protect their creative works.
As an attorney, Leah provides legal advice to Music Artists, Influencers, Digital Creators, and TV/Film stars to ensure their brands, businesses, and creative works are protected. As a Houston native and CEO of a streetwear company, Leah prides herself on being an Attorney who advocates for professionals to pursue not only their professional goals, but their personal passions as well.
